New food for the lil’ one

Hello there! It’s been a while. My kid’s starting to move around the house climbing stuffs so it’s pretty hard for me to leave him alone and write (in this case type). Ok, I was going to write about our holiday but I couldn’t seem to transfer pictures from my phone so let us leave that for another time.

My lil’l boy is almost 9m3w now. It’s great to see him do lots of new things. He’s so chatty these days (which is a good thing) and starts to eat more various foods (and more solid than before). No problem in that part but since we came back from our 3 weeks holiday, he seems to want to feed himself or just hold on to something while he opens his mouth. 3 weeks in Balikpapan, not a day I skipped cooking for him. Yeay for no instant food during holiday! It was actually not as complicated as I thought it would be preparing his meals.

Here’s some new food he tried so far. Started to add just a little amount of herbs and spices in his meals too.

Out on holiday

You might have wondered why I haven’t posted anything for the last 3 weeks or so. That’s because we’ve been on a holiday ๐Ÿ˜‰ Well it was an extended holiday since we planned for 1 week only and turns out we had to stay for another 2 weeks. We visited few restaurants and the lil’ kid got to try out new fruits and foods that are not available here in Sangatta. It was a fun trip. I’ll post about it pretty soon. Got a house to clean and luggage to be unpacked. See you soon!

LUNCH – DINNER

There was no fish or shrimps or anything else at the market so it was chicken for the whole week. Starting to get bored of chicken since it’s been like almost 2 weeks without fish menu. Plus I’m running out of ideas of what to cook. Here’s the food for this week (in random orders).

Food for the tummy

Wohoo it’s Friday. Time for food pictures. The fasting month is over so it’s back to Bento breakfast for my husband. I only managed to make 2 this week.

The bread pudding and frittata wasn’t really a success, but still tasted fine to be eaten. So that’s all for now. Have a great weekend! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Breakfast, lunch or dinner?

โ€œMaybe the cat has fallen into the stew, or the lettuce has frozen, or the cake has collapsed. Eh bien, tant pis. Usually one’s cooking is better than one thinks it is. And if the food is truly vile, then the cook must simply grit her teeth and bear it with a smile, and learn from her mistakes.โ€ โ€• Julia Child, My Life in France

Here’s my cooking this week (cooking that are good enough be taken a picture of. Lol)

Learn to socialize at his own pace

Very often people I met comment about my almost 8 month old kid crying when he sees people other than his mama or papa. They often say, get your kid out to see other people more so he’ll get used to it. What do I have to say? I mostly just smiled. I’m not worried that he doesn’t want to be with other people other than the ones he already know because for his age, it’s normal for him to be uncomfortable being somewhere not his home (or where he used to) or seeing someone he is not familiar with. It’s okay for him to not want to be carried by someone else other than his mama or papa.

Not that he cries everytime he goes to public places or outside the house. He cries mostly when people take notice of him, when he’s bored or it’s hot. He actually tries to get people’s attention when we ignore him. Yes, it’s normal for his age. I read that babies at 3 months start to notice people other than his parents. By the age of 4 months, babies smiles at pratically everyone (including the doctors). By the time he is 6 months they know who they are familiar with, they already have good or bad memories about previous experience with people. That’s why babies start to cry when they see the doctor. Crying is just their way of saying they’re not comfortable or do not want the doctor to put a needle through his/her thigh. By the age of 15 months they will learn to control their cries. At that age my kid will be more comfortable around people. He will still have good and bad memories about people he previously encounter. He will still probably dislike the doctors though maybe he won’t cry. Every child learn to socialize at their own pace. We’re here to support him.

So for now, I’m not trying hard to make my kid not to cry when he’s not comfortable with other people or make him socialize more. Why? Because for me up to age 12 months, it’s my kid’s time to bond and build trust with his mama, papa & close families (this one is a bit hard since we live miles away from our families). Later he’ll learn to understand that even when he socialize with others, mama and papa will always be there for him (even when we’re out of his sight).

Weekend Birthday & Food Fiesta!

“Every year on your birthday, you get a chance to start new” – Sammy Hagar

Yes, there’s always something new each year ๐Ÿ™‚ This year I celebrated my birthday with my husband and a lil’ almost 8 month boy, just the three of us. Besides our Saturday routine going to the market and church, we had a weekend food fiesta!

"Saturday Lunch"

Top: Fried Eggplant, Bottom: Fried Shrimp (made this for lunch)

After church we went to a place called “Montero” to have dinner. It’s considered to be a special place to have a meal here in Sangatta.

"Saturday Dinner"Left: Mango Juice & Sour-sop Juice, Top right: Sirloin Steak, Bottom right: Beef Kiev

"Smile"

Just us three… ๐Ÿ™‚

On Sunday, we just had simple meals at home…

"Sunday Breakfast"

Top: Banana Oatmeal, Bottom: Toast with cheese & jam (made this for Breakfast)

This is called “Padang Food” (bought this for lunch)

The lil’ kid also had his share of food fiesta. He had mama’s homemade meals :p

Top left: Tempe, pumpkin & corn, Bottom left: Tempe & Chayote Porridge, Right: Chayote & Porridge

And there’s another thing we did this weekend (on Sunday). A certain someone got his hair shaved…. Here he is…

My birthday wish this year. Hope I can always be a good wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend… And always be thankful for everything He gives. Amen!
